Tappara opened a barrage at Nokia Arena on Saturday, scoring three times before the first period was half over. New Jokerit goaltender Tomi Karhu conceded all three, with Jyrki Jokipakka, Niclas Almari and Tomi Sallinen on the scoresheet. The quick start left Jokerit stunned; several visiting fans left the stands after Tappara's third goal, Iltalehti reported. In earlier rounds supporters had protested by waving shoes. The defeat extended Jokerit's losing run to four games. Chairman Mikko Saarni offered an indirect assurance that head coach Tomek Valtonen will remain in place despite growing questions over the team's form, Tamperelainen reported.
