Overflowing temporary waste bins in Vuores left mixed-waste containers and garbage bags piled at the Mistraalinkuja collection point over the May Day weekend, after the district's pneumatic tube collection system ended on the eve of the holiday. Local paper Tamperelainen published photos a resident sent showing the collection point clogged and bags scattered across the ground.
"A chaotic weekend," the resident said, describing people carrying trash sacks from bin to bin until they found space and birds pecking open the bags. The bins were emptied on Monday but began filling again quickly, the resident added, pointing out that hundreds of people live near Mistraalinkuja.
Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto has placed wheeled temporary containers for different waste streams while permanent collection containers are installed. The final locations will be decided by Tampere's city community committee.
