Trash bin set alight against Veittijärvi campus wall, firefighters prevent school fire

A trash bin placed against the wall of the Veittijärvi campus of Kauraslampi School in Ylöjärvi was set on fire on Monday evening, Tamperelainen reports. Fire chief Petri Rantala of the Pirkanmaa rescue department said a passerby saw the flames and called emergency dispatch; crews from eight rescue units extinguished the blaze and stopped it from spreading into the school. No one was hurt. Rantala warned the scene had the elements for a large fire because the burning bin was pressed up against the building. The police are investigating and are seeking the person who started the fire. The incident follows a large industrial building fire in Ylöjärvi in early September, which also required a substantial rescue response.
