Tukkateatteri will premiere Yön Vuodenaika, a cycle of horror short plays, at its Tampere stage on 24 October, with performances running through 4 December; the production is not recommended for audiences under 15.

The programme collects original short plays by Tukkateatteri members around a shared, dark premise. In the show's skewed world, summer is dead. A flowing-garment Midsummer bride wanders the night. Creators Johanna Kuusela and Karri Kuusela, who conceived and lead the project, say the evening moves through tones "from harrowing tension to tears of emotion and even laughter," and that it targets fans of thoughtful, psychological horror.

The material for Yön Vuodenaika came from an open text call among the theatre’s membership in summer 2025. Writers were asked to include both night and a season and to weave into their pieces at least two conceptual elements: for example sleep, light pollution, a blanket or silhouette, the first tiny birch leaves of spring, sunburn, leaves or frost. Fourteen texts were submitted and nine selected; the chosen writers include established and award-winning authors.

Rehearsal planning was guided by concern for actor wellbeing. Minna-Reetta Kokkaliari, one of six directors on the project, says unsettling scenes were first walked on stage and routes rehearsed before frightening elements were layered in. Group conversations and time for emotional sharing were built in to help keep performers secure. Media representatives are admitted free. Tickets are available through Tukkateatteri’s website.
