Two Conservation Groups and a Resident Appeal Iidesjärvi Park Zoning

Three appeals have been filed against Tampere’s Iidesjärvi park zoning decision, YLE reports. Hämeenlinna Administrative Court received complaints from two associations and a private individual after the city council approved the plan in August.
The appellants include the Tampere branch of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation, Tampere Urban Nature Friends, and one private person. Tampere Urban Nature Friends says the environmental and birdlife surveys and the impact assessments contain gaps and asks the court to annul the zoning decision.
The Iidesjärvi park plan, launched in 2020, designates parts of the lake and shoreline as a nature protection area while proposing new recreational features. Near Nekalantie and the current depot area, the plan proposes a nature-themed play space, a fitness area, picnic and campfire spots, and parking. A new bird tower is planned by the existing mat-washing site, and allotment gardening and mat-washing access would remain.
The council approved the plan in August; it follows the council's decision and builds on earlier proposals to protect the shoreline while allowing limited recreation after earlier local debate over wildlife impacts.
Mikko Nurminen, head of Tampere’s urban environment services, said he was not hugely surprised but was disappointed after extensive work and unusually broad dialogue. He expects the administrative court to issue its decision next year.
