UFF to Close Hervanta Shop in Duo Shopping Centre After Weak Sales and Rising Costs
UFF will close its Hervanta secondhand shop in the Duo shopping centre by the end of the year, citing weak sales and rising costs. Six permanent staff are involved in change negotiations.
Aamulehti reports that UFF will close its Hervanta secondhand shop in the Duo shopping centre by the end of the year, following a decision made in late September or early October. Management and staff tried various measures over a long period to turn the shop profitable. Those efforts were not enough, UFF communications manager Riitta Nissi told Aamulehti.
The Hervanta store employs six permanent staff plus several on-call sellers. Change negotiations are underway with the aim of finding roles for employees in other UFF outlets. Nissi said clothing sales fund development cooperation and must be sustainable, and she added that UFF hopes to return to Hervanta later.
After the turn of the year, Tampere will have two UFF shops remaining, both on Hämeenkatu. The closure comes amid other recent local retail troubles: Sale Hervanta on Insinöörinkatu closed at the end of October Sale Hervanta's closure, and Nextiili has recently faced cash-flow problems that threatened its Lielahti operation Nextiili's cash‑flow crisis.
