16-year-old Given One-year Conditional Sentence, Ordered to Pay €160,000 After Ikaalinen House Arson
Two 16-year-old boys were convicted in Pirkanmaa District Court after a vacant house in Ikaalinen was set on fire last October; one received a one-year conditional sentence and was ordered to pay nearly €160,000.
Two 16-year-old boys were convicted in Pirkanmaa District Court for aggravated theft and aggravated damage after one set fire to a vacant detached house on Kirkkokatu in Ikaalinen last October, according to YLE.
Emergency services were alerted to a building fire just before 4 a.m. The house was gutted and left uninhabitable. No one was injured. Police arrested two suspects at the scene.
One of the boys, who admitted guilt in court, was sentenced as a young person to one year of conditional imprisonment for aggravated theft and aggravated damage and ordered to pay nearly €160,000 to the victim and the insurer. The other participant received a five-month conditional sentence for aggravated theft and was also convicted of breaching the peace of the home and defamation, with compensation and damages set at just over €10,000. He admitted the aggravated theft charge but denied the other offences. The sentences are not yet final.
The case follows other recent arson cases in the region previously in Tammela and a vacant house fire in Järvensivu.
