Man in Pirkanmaa Sentenced to 4.5 Years for Aggravated Child Rape
A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for aggravated child rape involving a 15–16-year-old girl, and ordered to pay €12,000 in compensation.
The Pirkanmaa District Court sentenced a 37-year-old man to four years and six months in prison for aggravated child rape, for offences committed in the region between June 2024 and November 2025.
Judges found he had sexual relations on several occasions with a girl aged 15–16, and that the acts began before she turned 16. They said he occupied a position akin to an older guardian. The victim's trust and dependence on him made the offences particularly harmful.
The court considered the age gap, the relationship between the parties, the number and nature of the contacts, and the overall circumstances to be aggravating factors.
The defendant denied the aggravated charge but admitted to sexual contact after the victim turned 16, while disputing that he had been in a guardian-like role.
The trial was held behind closed doors at the victim's request. The court ordered the man to pay the victim €12,000 in compensation, and the verdict is final. YLE is not naming the convicted person or the exact locality to protect the victim.
