A 19-year-old has been charged with attempted murder after a March stabbing outside a restaurant near Tampere Central Square; the suspect has a long violent criminal record and the trial is set for Pirkanmaa District Court on 9 June.
A 19-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder over a stabbing outside a restaurant next to Tampere Central Square during a weekend night in March, Yle reported.
The alleged victim was also born in the 2000s. An 18-year-old is separately charged with assault; police say a knife was used and only one person was wounded. Authorities have not commented on a motive or on whether the suspects and victim knew each other. The case is due to be heard at Pirkanmaa District Court on Tuesday 9 June.
The main suspect has a long, violent criminal record dating back to his youth. It includes convictions for robbery, theft, assault, distributing a sexual image of a child and two minor firearm offences. As an adult, he was convicted in April 2025 of aggravated robbery after attacking a victim until they were unconscious and stealing a wallet. He received a 2.5-year prison sentence that is final. Less than a month earlier he was given a five-month suspended sentence for assault and aggravated deprivation of liberty; that sentence is not final. The victim later sought and was granted a one-year extended restraining order against the suspect.
