A person was hospitalised after a stabbing outside the Kale shopping centre in Kaleva; police quickly detained two people and investigators say preliminary charges include attempted murder and attempted aggravated assault.

A person was wounded and taken to hospital after a stabbing outside the Kale shopping centre entrance in Tampere on Tuesday evening, Tamperelainen reports. The alarm came in at 19:20 and the incident happened outside the mall’s entrance in the Kaleva district. Another bystander’s outer clothing was torn but they were not physically hurt. Police quickly located and detained two people who had left the scene.

According to Tamperelainen, investigators arrested the suspect yesterday and believe the main suspect is a non-local man born in the 2000s. Police suspect him of two counts of attempted murder. Detective Chief Inspector Marfa Raipela told Tamperelainen that police have already interviewed the victims and “have a good grasp of how events unfolded”. She added that investigators continue to probe the motive and carry out further questioning.

According to YLE, investigators believe the suspect was born in 2008 and is not from the Tampere area. Police accuse him of two counts of attempted murder and say he did not know the victims beforehand. Detective Inspector Marfa Raipela told YLE that authorities have “a good understanding of the sequence of events”. Police will ask that the suspect be remanded in custody on Thursday as the investigation continues through witness interviews and other enquiries.

Investigators say preliminary charges include attempted murder and attempted aggravated assault, though the classifications may change as the probe continues. The inquiry remains at an early stage. Police have not released further details. It is the latest in a series of recent stabbings in Tampere, following a late‑September attack in Koskipuisto park that left a man hospitalised.
