22-year-old jailed for brutal October beating at Tampere Central Square
A court sentenced a 22-year-old to one year and five months in prison for a brutal October assault at Tampere’s Central Square.
The Pirkanmaa District Court sentenced the 22-year-old to one year and five months in prison for the October assault at Tampere Central Square. The verdict is final.
Surveillance footage shows him knocking the victim to the ground outside a nearby bar and then repeatedly kicking his head beside a hot dog stand, until bystanders intervened.
The attack left the victim with dental damage and fractures to the facial bones. The court said the victim had been defenseless and described the act as particularly savage and cruel. A separate allegation that the assault began with choking was dismissed for lack of evidence.
He committed the crime while on probation for an earlier violent conviction; the court ordered that earlier conditional sentence executed, adding 30 days to his term.
He has several past convictions, including fines in April 2023 for two assaults and an illegal threat linked to incidents in Ylöjärvi in December 2021 when he was a minor. He also received a conditional sentence in June 2024 for a 2022 assault.
He is suspected of a July stabbing at Ylöjärvi’s Pimeesalmi shipyard and has confessed to that act during the preliminary investigation. Earlier coverage noted a young man was remanded in the Ylöjärvi stabbing and was later charged in connection with the attack.
