22-Year-Old Charged with Attempted Murder After Ylöjärvi Stabbing
A 22-year-old has been charged with attempted murder over a late-night stabbing in Ylöjärvi; police say the suspect admitted the attack and the victim has since been discharged from hospital.
Regional prosecutor Nelma Nieminen filed the charge at Pirkanmaa District Court, YLE reports.
Preliminary investigation shows the suspect admitted the attack. The stabbing happened during a late-night brawl and police seized the knife used. Chief Inspector Heikki Järnström, lead investigator at the Central Finland Police, said the evidence indicates the weapon was in the suspect's possession.
The victim was discharged after a short hospital stay. Police said the injuries were initially life-threatening but caused no permanent physical damage apart from minor cosmetic effects.
Other fights occurred the same weekend outside the Pimeefest festival grounds, and authorities are investigating those incidents as aggravated assault, assault and minor assault.
The suspect was remanded in custody on probable cause on July 8, with a remand hearing held on August 27. Court records show three previous final convictions in Pirkanmaa: a conditional prison sentence in June 2024 for assault and resisting security, and earlier convictions for assaults and an illegal threat committed while he was a minor.
