From mid‑April 2026, adults authenticating to public e‑services with strong Suomi.fi credentials will be prompted to activate a Suomi.fi electronic mailbox; activation requires explicit confirmation and email verification.

From mid‑April 2026, adults will be directed to enable a Suomi.fi electronic mailbox when they authenticate to public e‑services. City of Tampere says the change applies when you use strong Suomi.fi authentication and that activation requires your explicit confirmation.

The mailbox is offered only to adults who do not already use Suomi.fi messages; you must enter and verify your email address during the authentication flow to receive notifications. You can read messages in the Suomi.fi mobile app or by signing into the Suomi.fi web service and opening the Messages section. Notifications arrive by email and via the mobile app if you have it installed.

The change does not affect minors, people under guardianship, or those with a valid power of attorney, and it does not activate for the organisation or client on whose behalf you are acting — it is tied to your personal account. You may keep receiving paper mail by choosing paper delivery; that choice remains in force for at least a year. Removing the Suomi.fi app does not disable messages — you must switch the service off in Suomi.fi message settings.
