Tampere to prompt adults to activate Suomi.fi Messages and verify email from mid‑April 2026

From mid-April 2026 adults who authenticate to a public administration e-service will be directed to activate Suomi.fi Messages during login. City of Tampere reports the activation happens only during strong authentication and requires users to confirm an email address.

During activation you will be asked to provide and verify your email so authorities can send an email notification when new messages arrive; app notifications are also available through the Suomi.fi mobile app. The change applies only to adults using municipal or state e-services — minors, people under guardianship and those with continuing guardianship authorisations are excluded — and if you act on behalf of an organisation the service is activated for you personally, not for the organisation.

You can opt to keep receiving paper letters for at least one year; after that period you will be prompted again to activate Suomi.fi Messages the next time you authenticate. Deleting the mobile app does not deactivate the service — deactivation must be done in Suomi.fi Messages settings — and help is available from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency customer service at +358 295 000.
