Akaa's Finns Party group says Anton Murola should remain chair of the city's audit committee despite criticism over racist social media posts; the city council will make the final decision after the city board discusses a removal motion.
Akaa's Finns Party group backs Anton Murola to remain chair of the city's audit committee, saying his suitability has not changed despite criticism over racist and derogatory social media posts, according to YLE.
Eleven councillors have signed a motion that, if passed, would remove Murola from the audit committee leadership. Signatories include the group chairs from the Centre Party, National Coalition, Social Democrats and the Greens.
The city board will discuss the motion on Tuesday, and the city council will then make the final decision.
The Finns group pointed to Murola's election vote total in defence. He received 77 votes, the third-highest among the party in Akaa, and they say that indicates he can continue in the role.
Saija Roininen, chair of the city board, condemned Murola's posts and said she does not accept disrespectful treatment. "I am not against him as a person, but I do not accept his writings," she added.
City manager Antti Peltola said the municipality follows legislation and equality policies and treats everyone with equal respect.
Murola previously told YLE the initiators have every right to submit motions and form a committee. YLE was unable to reach him for comment on Friday.
