Bright commons, new labs and music studio win praise at Rellu and Pyynikin lukio
Students and staff praise renovated facilities at Tampereen lyseo (Rellu) and Pyynikin lukio, highlighting bright communal spaces, upgraded science labs and a new music studio, though staff note the Pyynikin gym remains small.
At Tampereen lyseo, students favour a bright second-floor common area with large windows, sofas, tables and a student kitchen. Others appreciate the quiet third-floor administration corridor, acting principal Johanna Halme says. First-year students who spent the autumn term in temporary premises nearby welcome Rellu’s clearer layout; Lilja Laiho calls Pyynikin's space “a bit maze-like,” while Taika Kervola praises the roomy communal area for studying and meeting friends. Final-year student Nooa Kumpula spends time in the student union room or the adjacent meeting area and notes how easy it is to bump into classmates along the corridors.
Science teacher Akseli Siekkinen highlights practical upgrades in the new chemistry and physics facilities. Cabinets are clearly labelled, electrical sockets are built into the workbenches, and a rear study area visible through an interior window supports IB science projects.
At Pyynikintie 2, the renovated Pyynikin lukio occupies a historic 1916 building expanded in 1934 and classified as a nationally significant cultural environment. Guidance counsellor Heidi Rantanen and students praise the building’s light, ergonomics and music studio, though staff remain concerned about the gym’s small size.
