Calle Málaga — The Street of My Memories; Young Mothers

According to ePressi, C'est la Vie has announced press screenings in Finland this spring for two European films: Maryam Touzani’s Calle Málaga and the Dardenne brothers’ Young Mothers, with Tampere screenings on 6 and 20 May respectively.

Calle Málaga is Touzani’s first Spanish-language feature and stars Carmen Maura. The film follows María Ángeles, a retired widow who has lived her life in Tangier. When her daughter unexpectedly plans to sell the apartment on Málaga Street, she faces the prospect of moving to Madrid or into a care home. The story traces how she tries to hold on to home and memory while encountering new joys and a late love. Touzani’s previous film, The Blue Caftan, was Morocco’s Oscar entry in 2022.

Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s Young Mothers centres on a group of young women bound by pregnancy and early parenthood. One central character, Jessica (played by Babette Verbeek), is heavily pregnant and searches for the mother who abandoned her as a baby. Set in a mother-and-baby home in Liège, the film follows daily survival amid pressures such as racism, drugs and domestic violence. Young Mothers received support from the Creative Europe MEDIA programme.

Screenings in Finland are: Calle Málaga — 28 April in Kuopio, 29 April in Helsinki, 29 April in Joensuu, 4 May in Turku and 6 May in Tampere. Young Mothers — 23 April and 12 May in Helsinki, 18 May in Turku and 20 May in Tampere. Press materials are available from Filmikamari.
