Candle Sparks Mattress Fire on Raiskionkatu; Resident Escapes Unharmed

The resident escaped unharmed. Rescue services extinguished the burning bed and ventilated the apartment, Aamulehti reports. Duty fire chief Juha Toivonen said the occupant had fallen asleep without putting out the candle. He said investigators do not know whether the candle was left on the bed or beside it. The mattress was burned beyond use, Toivonen said, but the fire did not spread to the rest of the apartment.
