Cultural Environment Days will run across Finland from late August through November, with Pirkanmaa highlights including a sustainable repair day at Piiru in Tampere and heritage-themed events and assistance evenings at Vapriikki in September.

The Finnish Local Heritage Federation says Cultural Environment Days (Kulttuuriympäristöpäivät) will run across Finland from late August through November.

The programme includes guided tours, open-door days, exhibitions, walks and volunteer work. Most events are free.

In Pirkanmaa, highlights include the sustainable repair day at Rakennuskulttuurikeskus Piiru in Tampere on 29 August, an assistance evening for owners of old buildings at Museokeskus Vapriikki on 10 September, and a thematic day called Heritage at Risk – Our Shared Cultural Environment at Vapriikki on 17 September.

Events in small towns and rural areas range from Sastamala’s community event on 26 August to a market day in Valkeakoski.

The Finnish programme is part of European Heritage Days, held in 48 countries under themes set by the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

The 2026 theme, Heritage at Risk, draws attention to vulnerable buildings, practices and landscapes. It encourages local engagement in their care.

The Ministry of the Environment and the Finnish Local Heritage Federation coordinate the national events with partners including the National Board of Antiquities (Museovirasto), the National Agency for Education (Opetushallitus), the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Finnish Society for Cultural Heritage Education and the Finnish Museums Association.

Check the federation’s event calendar for full listings and times.
