Eppu Normaali’s Farewell: Three Sold-Out Nights Close 50-Year Live Career in Tampere

Eppu Normaali closed its live career with three sold-out stadium concerts at Ratina Stadium in Tampere on 6–8 August, drawing nearly 100,000 people, ePressi said.

The "Kaikki häipyy, on vain nyt" triple concerts ran almost four hours each. They featured more than 40 songs spanning the band's 50-year catalogue, mixing signature hits such as "Murheellisten laulujen maa", "Vuonna ’85", "Tahroja paperilla" and "Pimeyden tango" with rarer live numbers including "Kamat lujilla", "Pois meluun ja tuiskeeseen" and "Sotilaallinen tyhjiö." Pianist Iiro Rantala, who has guested with the group for a decade, joined the band on stage.

Martti Syrjä, the band's lead singer, said the finale went as they had hoped and acknowledged the emotional toll of stopping live performances: "Everything went as we wanted. I would not change anything. We wanted this to end this way. Still, it hits hard. Years and the audience will be missed, as will playing together with the band."

The Tampere dates capped a year of celebrations that began in January with 21 concert-hall dates, continued with two Bolt Arena nights in Helsinki and about ten festival appearances. Organisers put the farewell run's total at a record 262,700 attendees across arena and stadium dates. The shows follow the band's August announcement that it would end regular touring after 50 years.

Formed in Ylöjärvi in 1976, Eppu Normaali leaves behind a long legacy: 15 studio albums, roughly 1.5 million records sold and multiple gold and platinum awards. The band received the Finland Prize in 2009 for its contribution to Finnish rock music, and its lineup has remained unusually stable over five decades.
