Fake Fire Inspectors Target Homes in Pirkanmaa
Impostors posing as fire inspectors have tried to enter homes in Pirkanmaa, with sightings in Sastamala two weeks ago and Hämeenkyrö this week. The Pirkanmaa Fire Department says real inspectors wear official uniforms and present a photo ID, and they travel in a red rescue vehicle.
“The Fire Department reminds how to identify a real fire inspector,” Tamperelainen reports, noting that impostors have tried to enter homes in Pirkanmaa, with sightings in Sastamala two weeks ago and in Hämeenkyrö this week.
The Pirkanmaa Fire Department has confirmed several cases of people posing as inspectors attempting home visits, including checks of smoke alarms. Real inspectors are identifiable by official uniforms and a photo ID card presented on request, and they travel in a red rescue vehicle bearing the department crest and flashing lights.
The fire service notes that routine home inspections are not conducted unless residents have not returned the mailed self-assessment form. Home visits may also occur during scheduled home care visits or after a fire risk notice, with inspections arranged in advance. If you suspect a fake inspector, report the matter to police immediately and contact the fire department switchboard at 03 384 5900.
