Plans to demolish the former TPO central building in Kaleva to make way for a new apartment block in Tampere advance, Aamulehti writes.
The three-story building, dating from 1956, covers just over 2,000 square metres and sits at Hälläpyöränkatu 2, close to Kaleva Church and opposite Sammon School’s B-block (built in 2022).
The planning area lies between Sammonkadun traffic area and Kaleva’s park network, with a tram line nearby, in a district largely built in the 1950s and 1960s. The municipality says its aim is to develop the site while preserving the built cultural environment values and enabling infill housing; the applicant intends to demolish the central building and construct a residential building with structured parking. A zoning change would alter the land-use category and increase building rights, and the plan’s participation and assessment plan (OAS) will be available for viewing until 19 March 2026.
