Free 'Nature, Climate and Tampere' evenings begin Sept 30 with biodiversity session
Free public evenings titled 'Nature, Climate and Tampere' begin on 30 September at Tampere City Hall, with the opening session, from 17:30 to 19:00, focusing on biodiversity.
The free series begins on Wednesday 30 September in the City Hall's Näsijärvi Room. The opening session, from 17:30 to 19:00, will focus on biodiversity. It continues a series of resident gatherings on urban biodiversity, following an earlier biodiversity evening in May and ongoing work on the city's nature reserve planning May biodiversity evening and the draft nature reserve plan.
Kaisa Mustajärvi, the city's biodiversity development manager, will explain why biodiversity matters for Tampere and outline the municipality's targets. "Biodiversity sustains all life," she says. "It secures habitats for species living in the city, supports residents' wellbeing and helps with climate change adaptation. Halting nature loss requires broad change where everyone can do their part." City experts will describe why some park grass is left to grow, how nature is being restored at Kintulammi, and ways residents can link their yards into ecological networks. High school student Linda From will share her experiences as a nature ambassador in daycare settings, and Environmental Director Kati Skippari will join the discussion.
Attendees can explore the Nature for Yards! guide and the Environmental Status portal, ask about Tampere's nature trails and propose ideas for next year's nature outings. Later sessions will cover biodiversity and wellbeing on 29 October and Carbon-neutral Tampere 2030 on 24 November, with full programs appearing in Tampere's event calendar. Condensed versions of each event will be offered for high school and Tredun students.
