Tampere to Attend Lahti Nature Forum on 8 September to Tackle Urban Growth and Biodiversity
Tampere will take part in the Nature Forum of Finland’s ten largest cities at Sibelius Hall in Lahti on 8 September 2026, where about 500 participants will discuss balancing urban growth with biodiversity and promoting a nature-positive economy.
Tampere will take part in the Nature Forum of Finland’s ten largest cities at Sibelius Hall in Lahti on 8 September 2026. The event is expected to draw about 500 participants from cities, businesses, research organisations and the third sector.
Sessions will focus on reconciling urban growth targets with biodiversity goals and on promoting a nature-positive economy. Johanna Särkijärvi, Lahti’s director of growth services, said the forum aims to find concrete solutions to secure biodiversity while accelerating growth.
Rakennusteollisuus RT, the construction industry group sponsoring the event, represents a sector with major influence on land use, natural resources and everyday living environments.
Results from the mayors’ nature declaration, first launched in Tampere in 2024 and updated in Espoo in 2025, will be presented, including nature impact assessments and practical steps to strengthen blue-green infrastructure.
