Aleks Haatanen scored twice and Lukáš Jašek netted the overtime winner as Ilves beat Kärpät 4-3 in Oulu.

Ilves beat Kärpät 4-3 in overtime in Oulu on Wednesday, claiming two league points. Aleks Haatanen scored twice and Lukáš Jašek sealed the win with the overtime goal after a dramatic late equaliser from Haatanen.

The match swung back and forth. Haatanen opened the scoring at 5:57, and Ilves captain Jan-Mikael Järvinen, who recorded his first Liiga goal and point for the club, pulled the visitors level late in the third. Kärpät’s Andreas Okany scored twice for the hosts. One of his goals was a quick reply to Järvinen’s equaliser. Ilves answered when Haatanen deflected in a Luke Henman shot at 58:47. Jašek finished it at 60:37 with a low shot through traffic. Goaltender Niklas Rubin stopped 20 shots for Kärpät. Mantas Armalis made 31 saves for Ilves. Attendance was 3,632.

Ilves concludes a five-game road swing on Friday in Kuopio against KalPa before opening its first home fixtures at Nokia Arena the following week, facing KooKoo on Friday and TPS on Sunday. Full match coverage is available on ILVES+ and the club’s audiovisual channels.
