Heidi Holmavuo has published Tampere's Dark Cases, an audiobook and e-book examining more than ten unsolved Tampere crimes from the 1950s to the 2000s.

Heidi Holmavuo says 'I no longer would walk through the city centre at night alone.' She has published Tampere's Dark Cases, an audiobook and e-book released on Thursday 3 September that examines more than ten unsolved crimes in Tampere from the 1950s to the 2000s, according to Tamperelainen.

Holmavuo left a decade-long career as a paramedic at the Kanta-Häme Rescue Department in 2016. She trained as a private detective and moved into true-crime writing and media. Her previous work, including the breakthrough Karhuryhmä book with Harri Gustafsberg and a high-profile reinvestigation of the 1950s Elli Immo murder, has at times led police to reopen decades-old inquiries.

In the new title she mixes fact-based reconstructions with imagined detective reflections in the mold of Seppo Jokinen's Inspector Koskinen. She argues that population growth, changing neighbourhood reputations and modern forensic tools have transformed both crime and investigations in Tampere. Storyside publishes the book as an audiobook and e-book.

It follows earlier local crime fiction and audiobook projects set in Tampere that reimagined Inspector Koskinen for younger readers and appears against a backdrop of changing crime trends in the city and surrounding municipalities noted in police statistics earlier this year.
