Two new maintenance, storage and repair halls at the Tampere tram depot were completed and handed over at the end of August.

According to ePressi, two new maintenance, storage and repair halls at the tram depot were completed and handed over at the end of August.

The project added two separate halls designed to house the equipment used by the Tampereen Ratikan maintenance alliance, consolidating all track-infrastructure maintenance machinery on the depot site. They also include staff facilities and space for vehicles and tools used for regular upkeep, winter operations and on-call services.

With the halls and yard asphalting finished, work will continue on a repair-hall extension, an expanded electrical substation and modified track switches. Tampereen Raitiotie Oy says the tram storage hall extension is due in early November 2026, with the full depot expansion scheduled for December 2027.

Design and construction management for the expansion have been handled by the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance. The work is being carried out in phases so parts of the depot remain operational as new capacity is added.

The upgrades will increase storage and maintenance capacity, preparing the depot for planned tram network growth and allowing more efficient use of the site as services expand. The work supports the wider tram expansion programme and follows related stop-extension projects, including the recent Hervantakeskus platform lengthening started in September.
