Hervanta’s Mäkipuisto to get new play equipment, outdoor gym and improved greenery
The city has put a draft plan on display for a 2027 refurbishment of the Mäkipuisto playground in Hervanta, proposing new play equipment, an outdoor fitness station and vegetation work.
According to the City of Tampere, the recently renewed carousel will remain in place, while the city is proposing a wider refurbishment of the Mäkipuisto playground in Hervanta, by Ahvenisraitti between the Mäkipuisto sports field and Etelä-Hervanta school. The draft master plan is on display from 26 October to 9 November 2026 online, on the on-site notice board and at the Tampere service point at Aleksis Kivi Street 14–16 C.
Proposed equipment aims to serve both younger and older children. For little ones the plan includes a seesaw frame, spring riders and a multifunction play unit with two slides. For older children there would be board-seat swings, a nest swing and a climbing multiunit. The existing log car will be restored. A new outdoor fitness station with ladders, a sit-up bench and a pull-up bar is planned. Safety surfaces would use gravel and wood chips in play areas, with artificial turf under the fitness station and the carousel. Existing benches would be refurbished, bicycle racks kept in place and the playground lighting that was renewed in 2025 will remain in place.
Vegetation work includes removing invasive groups of mountain ash and inspecting birches for hazards; hazardous trees may be felled, while some trunks could be left as deadwood to support biodiversity. The refurbishment is proposed as a 2027 investment, and exact locations, models and quantities of trees, equipment and furnishings will be finalised during the construction planning phase. The plan follows the city's recent programme of playground renewals, such as the Emil Aaltonen Park playground plan.
