Emil Aaltonen Park Playground to Close in September for Renovation through 2026

Visitors will lose access to Emil Aaltonen Park’s playground from September as the site closes for a full renovation due to finish by the end of 2026. The work follows the city's June announcement of the planned 2026 overhaul.

Work will begin with site preparation and the removal of old structures. The playground will remain closed for the duration of construction.

Tampereen Infra Oy will be the contractor, and the City of Tampere will oversee the project.

Planners will reuse any play equipment and furniture that are still in good condition. Surfaces and structures will be rebuilt, and seating and the main walkway improved to make movement through the area easier.

The former skating rink at the centre of the play area will be replaced with new play equipment. Picnic tables and other seating will be added.

Tree growing conditions will be improved, and new deciduous and coniferous trees planted to increase shade and overall comfort.
