HJK signs Ilves midfielder Joona Veteli; Otso Virtanen loaned out
Joona Veteli has signed for HJK from Ilves, with HJK paying a transfer fee because Veteli's Ilves contract ran into next year; goalkeeper Otso Virtanen has been loaned out until the end of the season.
Joona Veteli is moving from Ilves to Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi. HJK will pay a transfer fee because Veteli's contract with Ilves extended into next year. He has featured seven times this season in the Veikkausliiga, scoring once, and leaves Ilves with 125 competitive appearances, 18 goals and 14 assists. He was part of Ilves sides that won Finnish league silver in 2024 and bronze in 2025.
Otso Virtanen will go out on loan until the end of the campaign. His destination has not yet been announced. He made five league appearances this season and served as Ilves captain in 2024 and 2025. Over his time at the club he amassed 110 official appearances and 40 clean sheets.
The moves come as Ilves, currently ninth in the Veikkausliiga, reshapes its squad for the rest of the season. The transfers were reported by Tamperelainen.
