Jämsä has reserved a 15,260 m² plot in the Hall district for E-Heat's proposed AI data centre, with an initial electrical capacity of about 9 MW and possible expansion to roughly 18 MW.

The reserved plot sits in the Hall district near the Kuoreveden Sähkö substation. Project documents foresee an initial electrical capacity of about 9 megawatts, with a possible later expansion to roughly 18 megawatts.

The city has authorized E-Heat to apply for zoning deviations, building permits and other necessary approvals. It stressed the reservation and authorization are not final permits and do not signal the start of construction. Any eventual transfer of the site, by sale or lease, will be decided after planning and permit processes advance.

E-Heat is a Tampere-based heat and data centre company founded in 2021. It operates 12 data centres across Finland and already supplies waste heat in Jämsä. In Kaipola, its operations provide waste heat covering about 30 percent of the industrial area's heating needs. In Hall, the waste heat supplies roughly 20 percent of the district heating network.

The firm intends to channel the new data centre's waste heat into the local network and has begun talks with Jämsän Aluelämpö aimed at keeping district heating prices competitive. "Data centre projects are part of a growing digital infrastructure, and exploring location options supports the city's vitality. This land reservation allows the project to move forward with detailed planning and the necessary studies," said Jämsä’s land use director Teijo Taipale.

Officials say planning, construction and operation are intended to be carried out entirely with Finnish labour.
