Tampere proposes 25,300 m² retail hub with about 680 jobs at Lahdesjärvi
A zoning proposal for a new commercial and light industrial area at Lahdesjärvi is open for public comment from 1–15 October 2026, proposing about 25,300 m² of retail space and roughly 680 jobs.
The city has published a zoning proposal for a new commercial and light industrial area at Lahdesjärvi. The plan and related documents are on public display from 1 to 15 October 2026, and residents may file objections with the city registry during that period.
It would create a combined commercial and industrial district about six kilometres from the city centre, offering roughly 25,300 square metres of retail space within a total of 72,403 square metres of floor area and an estimated 680 jobs. Daily grocery stores are not permitted. No housing is planned. The development is intended to serve around 6,000 residents in Peltolammi, Lakalaiva and Västinginmäki.
Most intensive retail is planned near the Ikea roundabout, and space is reserved for a possible tram stop and a new plaza. The plan also allows changes to the Vuores tram line and the Automiehenkatu collector road.
Earlier local reporting covered a proposed One Park outlet cluster next to the Ikea roundabout in Lahdesjärvi the One Park proposal.
The zoning update keeps the area designated for business and industrial use while tightening requirements for stormwater management, flood routes, planting, tree rows and a green factor to reduce heat-island effects. Designs aim to improve walking and cycling access and resolve heavy vehicle movements with a new Postitorvenkatu. The proposal was refined after a 2025 concept call that selected a company to help develop the plan; final approval rests with the city’s community services committee.
