On 29 August, students from Kalevan High School spent Finnish Nature Day gathering apples, garden berries and wild foods in the Haralanharju area to stock their home-economics pantry for the year, according to local daily Aamulehti. It was a hands-on lesson. The outing combined practical food education with exercise: pupils picked berries and mushrooms, washed and preserved the haul, and accepted donated apples and other garden fruit from local households. Teachers said the practical work helped pupils appreciate what Finnish nature provides and learn how to store seasonal produce.

Aamulehti's community roundup listed other recent local events, including a 70th birthday celebration at Hopealahti senior home for Esko Pulkkanen, the unveiling of a memorial relief for Lotta Tuulikki Suvanto at the Punkalaidun war cemetery on 12 August, and a 58th-reunion visit by 1968 engineering students to sites in Tampere on 2 September 2026. The outing follows a trend of nature-based learning in Tampere, after an outdoor learning conference this summer that brought teachers and nature professionals to the city and recent school shore-angling activities for 18 classes to learn fish identification and angling.
