Koilliskeskus Library Reopens with New Silent Study and Shared Activity Spaces

The refurbishment of Koilliskeskus Library in Linnainmaa was completed in April. Customers helped shape the changes during spring 2025 after the youth space Muru moved to Korpikodinkatu, freeing room for new functions. Library surveys and a resident workshop showed strong demand for open, shared spaces for reading, puzzles, colouring, board games and socialising. "We're pleased we could respond to customers' wishes," said service manager Anu Hakari. The former youth space now has a large communal table for many activities. The puzzle area has been moved to the renovated zone.

Quiet working and reading needs led to the conversion of the former staff office, Sora, into a silent study with six workstations; two are electrically adjustable. The Kallio sports hall received new paint and acoustic ceiling panels, as well as a larger changing room and a new water point. Mats in the Kivi meeting room and play area were replaced, and the loft above the former youth area was converted into staff offices, with social facilities refreshed.

Located inside the Prisma building in Linnainmaa and sharing premises with the local maternity and child health clinic, the library is the city's third busiest. It has seen rising visitor and lending numbers in recent years. Opening hours are Monday–Thursday 8:00–20:00, Friday 8:00–18:00 and Saturday 9:00–16:00. Self-service is available Monday–Friday 8:00–10:00 and Saturday 9:00–10:00.
