Nekala library's furniture came in under budget, leaving about €27,000 that the city will reallocate to buy self-service kiosks and loan-and-return machines for Koilliskeskus library.

Nekala library's furniture came in under budget, leaving about €27,000 unused, according to Tamperelainen. The city will reallocate the surplus from the 2026 investment budget to pay for self-service technology and loan-and-return machines at Koilliskeskus library.

About €27,000 will be split, with €10,000 going to self-service technology and €17,000 covering new loan-and-return machines. The equipment had been planned for next year but was cut from the investment list because of overall funding shortages. The reallocation brings the purchases forward and should improve everyday services for Koilliskeskus residents.

This follows the library's 2026 reopening, which added new silent study and shared activity spaces at Koilliskeskus.
