Korpinpuisto in Järvensivu opens nature playground with log hut and wooden boats
The City of Tampere has opened a nature-focused playground in Korpinpuisto, Järvensivu, featuring recycled-material play structures including a log hut and wooden boats.
According to the City of Tampere, Järvensivu now has a new nature-focused play area in Korpinpuisto. Construction began in April 2026, and the facility east of Kalevankangas Cemetery between Tilhentie and Kurpantie is open to the public.
The playground emphasizes natural materials — earth logs, natural stone and wooden structures — and all equipment is made from recycled materials, including submerged wood salvaged from Hiedanranta. Children can explore a hut built from logs, a play kitchen, wooden boats carved from tree trunks, and a climbing and obstacle course on the park's north side. "Korpinpuisto offers a new kind of play environment where nature is strongly involved in play and activities," says the city's green specialist, Kirsi Mäntysaari-Ukkola.
Pine woodland and street trees were preserved in the design, with sunny meadow areas, plantings of rowan and birch, and split-rail fences. Small finishing works — safety surfacing and installation of the remaining wooden components — will wrap up in the autumn. Tampereen Infra Oy was the main contractor, and the site was developed by the City of Tampere.
