Historic Jukola reopens as Ruusupuisto early childhood centre in Hatanpää
The renovated Jukola building in Hatanpää has reopened as the Ruusupuisto early childhood education centre. It houses seven groups, roughly 140 children, and is temporarily hosting Koivistonkylä groups.
The refurbished Ruusupuisto early childhood education and care centre in Hatanpää has reopened and is currently hosting groups from the Koivistonkylä centre. The City of Tampere confirmed the reopening.
The renovated premises offer functional, modern spaces designed to support the early years education plan, including small-group rooms, an art studio, a play kitchen and a sensory room, manager Terhi Söyrinki says.
Families and passersby have praised the centre’s playground and its direct outlook toward Hatanpää Arboretum and the lake. The outdoor area was planned using natural materials and microbe-friendly principles to encourage varied play.
The centre accommodates seven groups, roughly 140 children. It can also be used for evening activities.
The Jukola building is part of the Hatanpää Manor estate and was originally completed in 1890. Work began in January 2025, and the interior was gutted and fully refurbished.
The project team repaired damp damage, removed harmful materials and addressed unexpected structural discoveries, all without delaying the schedule or exceeding the budget, project manager Tero Keisu says. While the interior was modernised, the building’s historic exterior features, restored windows and an aged-looking tin roof were preserved.
