A new free right‑turn lane from Lahdenperänkatu into the Hatanpään valtatie roundabout will open overnight on 15–16 October, completing the recent street upgrade, the City of Tampere says.

The work completed on Lahdenperänkatu includes a new free right-turn lane into the Hatanpään valtatien roundabout, which will open the night of 15–16 October, the City of Tampere says.

The project follows plans to add traffic lights and a separated pedestrian and cycle path on Lahdenperänkatu announced in June, and ties into wider tram track construction along Hatanpään valtatie that required phased lane and traffic changes this year which expanded in April.

Work began in June. It replaced traffic lights, street lighting and several pedestrian and cycling facilities along the stretch. The new signals at the Lahdenperänkatu 3 junction will be switched on Thursday 15 October.

Drainage was improved. The north side now has a separated pedestrian and cycle path plus a dedicated bus stop waiting area, while the south-side combined path has been converted to a sidewalk.

Lane layouts have been adjusted. One lane now carries eastbound traffic toward Nekala up to the Kolmionkatu junction, and two lanes remain westbound toward Hatanpään valtatien. Final road markings will be completed during week 42 (12–16 October).

Tram construction at the Hatanpään valtatien intersection has advanced to allow some traffic to be moved partly onto the track area. The roundabout is expected to remain in use until about summer 2027, when traffic lights will replace it.
