Track construction on Hatanpään valtatie will expand from the end of April to cover almost the entire street, prompting phased traffic changes, the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa -allianssi said.
Officials expect most of the track work to be completed this year, with final lane layouts across the whole street scheduled for 2027. Work that began last autumn at the junction of Hatanpää and Tampereen valtatie will extend in both directions toward Sorin aukio and Hatanpää; rail installations are set to start soon between Jokikatu and Hatanpäänkatu and in the southern section.
Project manager Kari Kuuttila warned the roundabout at the Hatanpää–Tampereen valtatie junction will lose temporary lanes as work progresses. A free right-turn lane from Hatanpää toward Viinikka is closed until early May.
At the southern end, the work zone will shift to the centre of the street around late April–early May, with night-time lane changes planned for April 29–30. Lanes between Lahdenperänkatu and Nuolialantie will be positioned as in the final layout, bus stops on Vihilahdenkadun will move slightly north toward Siirtolapuutarhankatu, and the pedestrian and cycle path will remain on the west side. Access to properties and services will be maintained throughout the works.
Municipal engineering and street construction will continue through the summer. Most utility relocations are due to finish during the summer months, and the east side of the Vihilahti bridge should be ready by summer as work on the other side begins. Traffic arrangements will change in phases: some traffic is expected to use permanent routes already this autumn, while tram service between Sorin aukio and Partola stops and between Kaupin kampus and Ruotula stops is planned to begin in August 2028.
A through-traffic ban on Hatanpään valtatie between Tampereen valtatie and Lahdenperänkatu remains in force on weekdays from 06:00 to 18:00, excluding public transport and access to properties. The restriction aims to keep local movement and bus services running smoothly.
