Lahdenperänkatu to get traffic lights and separated pedestrian and cycle path — temporary traffic changes June 4–5
The western end of Lahdenperänkatu will get new traffic lights, a separated pedestrian and cycle path and other street improvements this summer; temporary traffic arrangements start overnight June 4–5 and on-street impacts begin June 5.
This summer the western end of Lahdenperänkatu will get new traffic lights, improved street lighting and clearer pedestrian and cycle routes, the City of Tampere says.
The work will add a separated pedestrian and cycle path on the north side, create a separate bus-stop waiting area and convert the south-side shared route into a sidewalk, project manager Kari Kuuttila of the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance says.
Drainage and road structure layers will be renewed. In the final layout the street will carry one eastbound lane toward Nekala up to the Kolmionkatu junction, and two westbound lanes toward Hatanpään valtatie.
In the first construction phase the work zone will sit on the north edge while traffic is shifted to the south. New traffic arrangements take effect overnight between Thursday and Friday, June 4–5, and will remain in place until early July.
On-street impacts begin with lane changes and staged disruptions from Friday, June 5. During this phase pedestrians and cyclists will be temporarily rerouted to the south toward Veturikatu, and one marked crosswalk will be removed for the duration of the work. The work area runs between Hatanpään valtatie and Kolmionkatu, and north-side construction will continue through the summer and into autumn. The Hatanpään Hovi bus stops will be closed until the end of July, affecting some bus routes.
The full project is due to finish in autumn 2026. Progress and traffic updates will appear on the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance website and social media; public transport changes are listed on Nysse's pages.
