Culture House Laikku opens two exhibitions from 3 October to 8 November 2026: The Language of Drawing in the main gallery and Laura Hetemäki’s Grasping in the studio. Admission is free.

The new shows follow Laikku's late‑August exhibitions that explored memory and art made from salvaged everyday materials. Drawing takes centre stage.

The main gallery, The Language of Drawing, features work by William Dennisuk, Anni Kristiina, Pinja Palviainen, Saara Reinikainen and Heidi Suikkanen. Each artist treats drawing as a primary way to communicate and to understand the world and themselves. The exhibition positions drawing as equal to painting and sculpture, tracing how nineteenth-century artists such as Degas, Van Gogh and Toulouse‑Lautrec blurred media boundaries and pointing to contemporary practitioners like William Kentridge who keep the tradition alive.

In the studio, Laura Hetemäki's Grasping presents paintings, drawings and linen weaving that grow from close attention to everyday materials and memories. An excerpt from Hetemäki’s recent publication describes finding a cottony fragment on the street, later seeing it woven into linen and feeling a renewed tenderness, a small encounter that feeds her work. Hetemäki trained at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (visual art, 2012) and completed a Master of Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki in 2024.

Both exhibitions run from 3 October to 8 November 2026 at Culture House Laikku, Keskustori 4. Admission is free. The venue is open Tuesday to Friday, 9:00 to 20:00, and Saturday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00.
