Culture House Laikku opens two new shows in Tampere on 16 May: Jussi Lautu’s IN/VISIBILITY and Tuulia Iso‑Tryykäri’s You Are Here. Both exhibitions are on view through 27 June.
Jussi Lautu’s photographic project centers on 117 self‑portraits made and selected by nonbinary participants. Lautu frames the series as a joint exhibition of 118 people because the subjects both appear in and photograph the images themselves. They pair these intimate portraits with disturbed Google Street View captures—glitches and distortions. Visibility can be vulnerability. These photographic “failures” probe who is made visible, when visibility becomes a risk and how norms are reproduced. Lautu (they/she) developed the work between 2020 and 2024 as part of a master’s thesis and doctoral research. The project received support from several Finnish arts foundations.
Tuulia Iso‑Tryykäri’s You Are Here offers a contrasting, complementary approach in oil painting. She uses everyday objects to cloak, reshape and reveal the body while probing themes of shame, inner conflict and the experience of being seen.
Both exhibitions are at Culture House Laikku, Keskustori 4, with free admission; opening hours are listed on Laikku’s event pages.
