Left Alliance names five parliamentary candidates in Pirkanmaa — three are Tampere city councillors

The Left Alliance has named its first five candidates for next year’s parliamentary elections in the Pirkanmaa constituency, the local paper Tamperelainen reports.

The lineup includes three Tampere city councillors — Mikko Aaltonen (50), Laura Korhonen (26) and Lauri Lindén (24) — alongside Anne Nyman (Nokia) and Tiina Vaittinen (Akaa).

Aaltonen holds a master’s degree in administrative sciences and chairs Tampere’s audit committee. He is a member of the Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county council, a former deputy mayor and sits on the European Committee of the Regions.

Korhonen is a master’s student and a first-term city councillor. Lindén studies social sciences and has become known for his social media activism.

Nyman, 61, works as a sales employee and union shop steward and serves as vice-chair of Nokia’s city council. She has been a top vote-getter in municipal elections and served as a deputy member of parliament in 2019.

Vaittinen, 45, is an entrepreneur who holds a doctorate in social sciences and has deputy roles in the wellbeing services county council and the party’s regional council group. Her work has focused on care, social and health policy and on peace and conflict research.

The party aims to put forward a full list for the constituency; parties may nominate up to 20 candidates.
