Low-frequency bass from Blockfest triggers almost 70 nuisance complaints in Tampere region
By Monday evening, 67 nuisance reports had been filed in the Tampere region after Blockfest, with residents blaming low-frequency bass that carried into homes and caused sleep problems and physical symptoms.
By Monday evening, 67 nuisance reports had been registered across the Tampere region after Blockfest, YLE reported, and more may still trickle in, inspector Sari Sassi said.
Of those with precise locations, 45 came from Tampere: 15 from the Ratinan and Nalkalan areas, 12 from Pirkkala and four from Nokia. The farthest reports came from Leinola, Lentävänniemi and Reuharinniemi.
Last year brought 60 complaints; this year's tally breaks that record for a second consecutive year.
City environmental supervisors blame low-frequency bass, which carries into residential areas. Complainants describe long-lasting thuds and building resonance heard even through closed windows, making sleeping and staying at home difficult. Some people report physical symptoms such as stress, heart palpitations and nausea.
The complaints follow a sold-out Blockfest at Ratina that took place alongside the nearby Festivaali over the weekend as reported earlier.
