Man born in 1940s killed on Epilänkatu; driver suspected of causing death by negligence

A pedestrian was killed after being struck on Epilänkatu in Tampere on Sunday.

Both men involved were born in the 1940s. The driver is suspected of causing death by negligence and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety. No alcohol was involved.

Detective chief inspector Sami Suhonen of the Police of Central Finland said the driver remained at the scene and that police and emergency services responded promptly.

Investigators are continuing interviews to establish the circumstances and the driver's actions before the impact. One witness has come forward; police ask anyone with observations to contact them.
