Mantas Armalis named Liiga Player of the Month for September after three shutouts
Ilves goaltender Mantas Armalis has been named Liiga's Player of the Month for September after winning all five starts, recording three shutouts and posting a 1.00 goals-against average.
Mantas Armalis has been named Liiga's September Player following a dominant month in goal. The club said he won the fan vote in Liiga's mobile app with 45 percent of the votes.
He played five games in September and won them all, four in regulation and one in overtime, posting three shutouts and conceding just five goals. It was a remarkable run. He led Liiga netminders with a 1.00 goals-against average and a 96.3 save percentage. He also posted the best expected-goals differential as the team went 7–1 in eight games that month.
Earlier in September he had a 27-save shutout in the season opener in Rauma and another clean sheet in the 6–0 home win at Nokia Arena over KooKoo the Nokia Arena home opener.
The recognition is the club's 15th Player of the Month honour and makes Armalis the oldest goaltender ever to receive the monthly prize. He will be presented with a bronze statuette replica of the Kanada-malja and a Seiko 5 Sport watch before the team's home game against Lukko in Tampere on Friday, October 9.
