Aamulehti reports that Modulight remained loss-making in H1 2026, posting an operating loss of €2.4m as revenue fell 13% to €3.1m, despite new openings in the semiconductor sector.

Aamulehti reported that Modulight remained loss-making in January–June 2026, posting a half-year operating loss of €2.4 million after revenue fell 13% to €3.1 million. The result came despite new openings in the semiconductor sector.

Headquartered in Hervanta, the Tampere laser technology firm improved EBITDA to €367,000 from a negative €625,000 a year earlier after streamlining operations and boosting margins on some products. Order intake lagged early in the year but picked up during the summer. Investments and a rise in low-margin prototype deliveries to large customers weighed on sales.

Early in the year it was accepted as an official supplier to one of the semiconductor industry's largest firms, a development that has generated new product ideas and helped secure development projects. CEO Seppo Orsila said the growth strategy is on track but needs more time as cash levels are monitored. Modulight now runs 36 development projects, up from 32, and expects full-year 2026 revenue and profitability to rise compared with last year. The company's move into semiconductor supply chains aligns with wider regional efforts to boost chip packaging and testing capabilities, including the EU-funded Hervanta chip-packaging pilot.
