Multi-car crash snarls Tampere western ring road in Pirkkala

Shortly before 2 PM on Friday, a multi-car collision blocked lanes on the Tampere western ring road in Pirkkala, with the crash occurring at the Rajasalmi bridge, reports YLE. Tamperelainen adds that it involved six passenger cars. No one has been seriously injured, the rescue department said.

According to Tamperelainen, the incident temporarily reduced the Pirkkala-bound lanes to a single open lane. Seven rescue units, along with multiple police and ambulance crews, responded to the scene. Officers are directing traffic as motorists face heavy delays, with the Jyväskylä-bound direction particularly affected.

Traffic has since eased back toward normal, Tamperelainen reports. It also says that three people were taken to hospital for further examinations. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Fintraffic's road traffic centre places the incident on road 3, just under three kilometres from the Pitkäniemi junction toward the Rajaniemi junction, and the cause of the crash is not yet known.
