Nearly 3,000 Runners to Close Tampere Roads on 3 October for Tampere Juoksee
Nearly 3,000 runners will take over central Tampere on Saturday 3 October for Tampere Juoksee, causing road closures and temporary traffic disruptions.
Organised by Tampereen Pyrintö as part of the club’s 130th anniversary, Tampere Juoksee will bring nearly 3,000 runners to central Tampere on Saturday 3 October. The event is part of the Tampere Day weekend programme Tampere Day weekend programme.
The lineup is dominated by the half marathon. Nearly 1,800 entrants have signed up for the half, about 500 for the 10 km, roughly 400 for the 5 km and around 300 children for the mini-marathon.
Children’s races start at 12:00 around Ratina Stadium. The half marathon and 10 km leave Central Square at 13:00, with the two fields starting in three waves, two minutes apart.
Drivers should expect temporary stops and slowdowns. Finlayson, Ranta-Tampella and Naistenlahti will see stoppages between about 12:30 and 14:30, while Eteläpuisto, Hatanpää and Härmälä will experience disruptions from roughly 13:00 to 16:00.
Elisa Hakanen, the club’s executive director, said Tampere Juoksee is a show of the club's strength and that the anniversary year has reinforced club spirit. For safety, this year’s 500 m and 1 km minimarathons will be held around Ratina Stadium instead of starting at Central Square, giving children a more secure race experience.
