A city survey reported by Aamulehti found that only about half of Tampere residents are prepared to cope for 72 hours in a disruption. Ninety-two percent said they know what “home stock” means, but practical readiness remains weaker.

About half reported actually having a 72‑hour stock in their household. Seventy‑three percent said they were prepared for payment‑terminal outages and kept a small amount of cash at home. The city stresses that proactive preparedness reduces household vulnerability during disturbances and speeds recovery.

More than a third did not know where to find reliable, up‑to‑date official information in emergencies. For alerts and official updates, Tampere residents can use the 112 Suomi app and municipal channels. The survey gathered responses in February on national Preparedness Day from over 400 Tampere residents via the Tampere Finland app.

Guidelines are posted on 72tuntia.fi; the recommendation is to be able to cope for three days in disruptions such as power outages. The city advises households to stock water and long‑lasting foods (about 1–2 buckets of water per person per day) and to store water in sealed containers. If a power outage occurs, food can be cooked outdoors using a camping stove. Tap water may still be available, but avoid pouring stored water into drains; do not flush toilets during outages to prevent sewer backups. In winter, residents should have warm clothes and blankets. A battery‑powered radio and a fully charged power bank help ensure access to reliable information during emergencies.
